SUMMARY:Behind Closed Doors
DESCRIPTION:Behind Closed Doors is a photographic exhibition featuring life within an Intensive Care Unit at the height of the pandemic. The photo’s were taken by Petro Bekker who volunteered to go back and work in the ICU at the start of the pandemic.  Petro re-joined her colleagues\, where she had been a Senior Sister and took her trusty camera with her. A special mention goes to the Wigan\, Wrightington and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation teams who feature in the photographs. The exhibition is on the lower ground floor of Manchester Central Library and organised by mental wellbeing charity\, MancSpirit. \nImage credit: Petro Bekker \nFree – please drop in

DESCRIPTION:On the anniversary of Peterloo\, we want to transport you to the world of ‘Libertalia’ a place where all are free and equal\, a ‘way of being’ the people of Peterloo wanted so much for Manchester. \n‘Libertalia’ was a city founded by Madagascan pirates in the 17th century. Here the pirates acted as “vigilant guardians of the people’s rights and liberties” against wage labour and capitalism. 100 years later the people of Peterloo became the just same guardians for Manchester\, their actions heralding a new era towards social justice. \nThis exhibition will see Manchester as the new ‘Libertalia’. Weaving tales of ‘liberty’ guardians and launching a new manifesto to help set ourselves free. \nLed by an international collective of artists\, educators and academics from three continents formed in 2017 to protest the gender gap. DESCRIPTION:This new\, contemporary multi-media exhibition celebrates 100 years of the city’s neighbourhood markets. Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund\, One Manchester\, who own and manage more than 12\,000 homes in central\, south and east Manchester\, engaged with local customers to curate an exhibition inspired by the social\, trade and civic heritage of Gorton\, Moss Side and Longsight markets. The exhibition comprises filmed poems developed by One Manchester customers\, oral histories recounted by market users and traders\, and photographs exploring markets as cultural and social spaces.
