DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Manchester March against Section 28 – still the largest LGBT march in this country. Join us to hear how this event was organised and who spoke and performed at the rally and the concert that followed. See some of the archive items and film footage from the event. \nThe national march\, rally and festival on 20 February 1988 attracted 20\,000 people\, filling Albert Square outside the Town Hall. In the evening a festival of entertainment took place at the Free Trade Hall. \nIf you were on the march come and tell us your own story. \nRefreshments served. \nThis event is free but booking is required.

As co-founder of the incredibly successful Baby Cow Productions\, hIs many credits include Gavin and Stacey\, Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa and Philomena. In June 2017 he was honoured with a special BAFTA for services to television. \nJustin Moorhouse\nJustin is a stand-up comedian\, radio DJ and actor. He appeared in Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights\, Looking for Eric and Guess The Attendance. He has written and appeared in his own BBC Radio 4 sitcom Everyone Quite Likes Justin and tours regularly. \nHazel O’Keefe\, Dulcet Sounds\nHazel is the founder of Dulcet Sounds\, Laughing Cows Comedy\, Club Feminista\, The Women in Comedy Festival and is the catalyst for many other projects. A full time self employed consultant\, event manager\, curator and promotor\, who is value and principle driven. DESCRIPTION:Hear the stories behind some of the magazine’s featured headlines; \n“Anderton on the rampage” \n“Poppers the price you pay” \n“Gay sauna raid” \n“Job security for lesbian and gay workers” \n“New gay bar in Bolton” \nAmateur yet unashamed\, over its lifespan (1978- 1986) The Mancunian Gay magazine documented the evolution of the LGBT rights movement in the UK. Its front pages shed light on a dynamic and vibrant era for queer community activism during the 1980’s. An era equally defined by homophobia\, police harassment and the AIDS crisis. \nManchester Pride in association with Archives+ at Manchester Central Library are delving into the past to uncover some of Manchester’s LGBT hidden histories. \nJoin us as we hear the fascinating story behind the birth of the magazine from one of the founding members of the Mancunian Gay collective\, Paul Fairweather; including how a magazine produced in a kitchen in Greater Manchester gave dispersed and isolated queer people an outlet for participation and inclusion by offering a voice which resonated with many. \nTo commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Sexual Offences Act\, Manchester Pride has commissioned a special anniversary edition of the The Mancunian Gay Magazine which attendees will be able to take as a momentum of this historic occasion. \nFollowing an exploration of the magazine and its impact on queer culture in Manchester in the early 80s there will be a panel discussion around it’s lasting legacy and the chance for attendees to carry out a Q&A with the panel. \nTickets to the event are limited but free to all who wish to attend. \nAll guests will recieve a welcome drink and a copy of the special anniversary edition of the Mancunian Gay to take home with them.
