SUMMARY:Michael Burns
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this live performance by an experienced folk musician who draws inspiration from local and family history. Michael Burns’ repertoire incorporates music from a wide timespan and he is interested in music pertaining to social commentary and how it relates to the present day. \nClick on the links to hear some of Michael’s music: \n‘Mulespinners Cottrells We‘\, tells the story of the Stalybridge Town Band and its involvement in Peterloo. \n‘Tameside Lads’ tells of a sea rescue back in the 1800s. \n‘James Keogh’ is about the role of people from Manchester in the Spanish Civil War. \n‘Oh Marie’ is an impressionistic account of an Irish Traveller funeral in Gorton. \n‘The Little Count’ is a waltz celebrating the music of a diminutive Polish musician who toured Europe in Georgian times before settling in Durham. \nFree – just drop in – please consider making a donation to support our Library Live cultural programme if you can\, either online or at one of our cash or contactless donation boxes in Central Library
