DESCRIPTION:“Manchester has been unveiled as one of cities taking centre stage in a summer tour to celebrate the Black British Book Festival this year. \nIn its third year the Black British Book Festival is Europe’s largest celebration of black literature and a fast-growing and a widely acclaimed event showcasing black authors and providing a platform for established and up and coming writers across the country. \nChampioning emerging talent\, hear from leading voices in Manchester Central Library on Sunday 17 September and discover your new favourite Black authors at this family festival that aims to banish barriers to entry. \nStorytelling\, workshops and talks\, from key black authors including Derek Owusu\, Manchester based poet Jackie Kay and author Kehinde Andrews\, British academic and author specialising in Black Studies\, will be part of the festival event taking place in Manchester Central Library. \nOre Agbaje-Williams and Lola Jaye will lead workshops\, and children and adult and children’s authors Ella Phillips and Kimberley Whittam and Jaqueline Ro will also take part in the planned events. \nManchester Libraries & Archives and Read Manchester will also promote their See Myself in Book collections on the day\, which ensure books are racially inclusive. \nTickets for the event are free.  \nCouncillor John Hacking\, Executive Member for Skills Employment\, and Leisure said: \n” We have a wealth of interesting and creative talent in Manchester across diverse communities\, so I am particularly pleased that we are hosting this family friendly festival\, of established and emerging black British authors representing all literature genres\, in Manchester Central Library.  We need to be able to reach out to all communities to make literature more accessible and engaging and break down barriers to inspire a love of reading and light the spark for future generations in the city. This ambitious project aims to inspire a love of reading and creativity in primary school-aged children across Greater Manchester and throughout the UK. \n \nBlue Peter Book Club Live Saturday 18th May.  \nJoin the Blue Peter presenters Abby\, Joel and Shini (and Henry the Dog!) for a day celebrating the love of reading. There’ll be guest authors\, creative crafts\, special story times\, masses of books and a chance to meet some magical classic book characters! \nChildren’s Laureate Joseph Coelho and children’s author Eve Ainsworth will be chatting to the Blue Peter presenters about their fantastic books. \nWe’ll ALSO be joined by George and Gyasi from CBeebies Bedtime Stories! \n   \nFREE EVENT. EVERONE WELCOME!! \nBlue Peter Badge Trail \nWe’ll also be launching The Blue Peter badge trail on the day. A special episode Blue Peter Book club Live will be shown on CBBC and iPlayer\, 5pm\, Friday 24th May live from Media City UK with authors and local school children taking part. Working in collaboration with BBC Arts\, Blue Peter will also produce book review content\, animations\, digital games and more to engage kids at home and in the classroom. \nThe Blue Peter Book Club Live will take place into Summer 2024 with a series of pop-up events at libraries and schools across the UK. \nThe Blue Peter Book Club Live is supported through funding from Arts Council England’s Project Grants.
