SUMMARY:Wisdom is the Principal Thing
DESCRIPTION:Manchester artist\, Fiona Donald\, has created an installation of drawings documenting the impermanence of the changing seasons. Initially Inspired by the quote around the dome of the Wolfson Reading Room she has created four large columns and 12 smaller pillars which draw on the rhythmic cycles of time passing. Some capture the immediacy of walking in the landscape\, others focus on objects collected\, picked\, and transported back to her studio in Salford to study and observe. \nYou can view more of Fiona’s work at fionadonald.com and at Fiona Donald | SUITE (suite-studiogroup.co.uk) \nMain image credit: Cherry Whitfield-Donald \nFree – drop in. SUMMARY:50 Windows of Creativity
DESCRIPTION:50 Windows of Creativity will transform the city’s windows and spaces into an innovative art gallery which takes you on a creative journey around the city. The displays feature multiple art forms\, from fine art and photography to ceramics\, crafts\, mosaics and murals – all curated by talented artists\, designers\, makers and collectives with a connection to Greater Manchester. \nAs an attraction for all to see and explore\, it will positively contribute to the economic\, social and cultural life of Manchester at a time when we all need something new to explore. More importantly\, the art trail will help to support the city’s art and creative community\, its businesses and cultural venues. \nAll pieces on display will be available to buy directly from the artist or maker so it’s a great opportunity to own an original piece of art or find unique gifts for friends and family. \nThe project culminates with an auction which will see a selection of pieces auctioned with proceeds going to their artists and makers\, and to The Lord Mayor of Manchester Charity Appeal Trust – We Love MCR Charity (registered charity number 1066972) which aims to help improve the lives and life chances of Manchester people. \nThe 50 Windows of Creativity displays are in windows and spaces around Manchester city centre and can be enjoyed within social distancing regulations. All visitors are encouraged to maintain a safe distance\, wear a face covering when appropriate and be respectful to other trail visitors. \nAt Central Library\, Caroline Coates has created a piece in partnership with Manchester Libraries\, inspired by the city’s rich history of standing up for what it believes in\, and of course the amazing archives at Manchester Central Library. \n50 Windows of Creativity is created by Wild in Art in partnership with Manchester City Council. \nDownload the trail map

DESCRIPTION:What stories can be uncovered from a city? \nevery thing every time\, a new flip-dot artwork by Naho Matsuda\, takes information from our interactions within the city to tell a new story about the people and the places of Manchester. \nWith the rise of the ‘Smart City’ asking important questions of what we want from the future\, where do we see ourselves in it? As Manchester’s citizens interact with the city\, a poem is generated\, made anonymous and resonated across several locations\, from a garden centre to a public library; a university square to a city laboratory. \nthe sun rises \nthe streets are empty \ntoday is the last day of the term \nthe car park is almost empty \nthe traffic light turns green \nthe cleaning shift starts \nthe bus is on time \nand it is colder than yesterday \nevery thing every time will be placed within the public realm across the Oxford Corridor from the 22nd June until 9th July; locations include Hulme Community Garden Centre\, University Place at the University of Manchester and CityLabs 1.0. \nManchester Central Library will host an extended run of the work outside the Wolfson Reading Room from 22 June until 9 August \nProject supported by Arts Council England\, Future Everything and CityVerve
