SUMMARY:Deaf Education & Audiology: A Journey through Artefacts\, Archives and Creativity
DESCRIPTION:The histories and lived experiences of deafness are rich and complex. Extraordinary technological advances have been made in the exploration of hearing\, alongside a better appreciation of the social and psychological impact of sensory perception on learning. The materials displayed offer an insight into the varied historical and contemporary approaches in deaf education and audiology\, from a range of perspectives. The exhibition also provokes questions around how we understand\, collect and communicate D/deafness in a dominant hearing world. The exhibition is part of the 100 year anniversary celebrations of Deaf Education and Audiology at The University of Manchester. \nCurated by Dr Jenna C. Ashton \nLecture and Programme Director of Heritage Studies\, The University of Manchester \nFree – please drop in \n  \n[image – Complexities of Lived Experience (2019)\, by Lawiza Tahir]

SUMMARY:2084 - An Immersive Experience
DESCRIPTION:SORRY\, DUE TO HIGH DEMAND ALL PERFORMANCES HAVE NOW SOLD OUT \nAN IMMERSIVE PERFORMANCE INSPIRED BY ORWELL’S CLASSIC \nThe Ministry of Truth is recruiting… \nEnter the dramatic world of Manchester Central Library after hours and embark on an immersive journey inspired by George Orwell’s dystopian novel. \nThis new immersive theatre production takes the audience inside a totalitarian state that monitors every act\, word and thought of its citizens. In our era of social media and digital corporations – when everyone is tracked\, analysed and influenced – Orwell’s compelling vision has never been more pertinent. 2084 puts the audience at the heart of this iconic story and explores how fragile are the freedoms that we take for granted. \nWelcome to the Party. \nREVIEWS OF PREVIOUS 2084 PERFORMANCES \n”With major dystopian vibes and a brilliant new story\, explore Manchester’s Central Library in a way never before experienced.” Whatsonstage \n”The company has fused the imposing physicality of Manchester’s Central Library with the appalling horror of George Orwell’s dystopian nightmare to create a thrilling piece of theatrical entertainment.” GM Reviewer \n“Disturbing and engrossing” Number 9 Reviews
