SUMMARY:Deaf Education & Audiology: A Journey through Artefacts\, Archives and Creativity
DESCRIPTION:The histories and lived experiences of deafness are rich and complex. Extraordinary technological advances have been made in the exploration of hearing\, alongside a better appreciation of the social and psychological impact of sensory perception on learning. The materials displayed offer an insight into the varied historical and contemporary approaches in deaf education and audiology\, from a range of perspectives. The exhibition also provokes questions around how we understand\, collect and communicate D/deafness in a dominant hearing world. The exhibition is part of the 100 year anniversary celebrations of Deaf Education and Audiology at The University of Manchester. \nCurated by Dr Jenna C. Ashton \nLecture and Programme Director of Heritage Studies\, The University of Manchester \nFree – please drop in \n  \n[image – Complexities of Lived Experience (2019)\, by Lawiza Tahir]

SUMMARY:Tom Moore & Archie Moss
DESCRIPTION:Accordion/Viola/Electronics duo debuting brand new material from their upcoming album to be released in 2020. \nWidely regarded as two of the best players\, innovators and performers in traditional folk amongst a precociously gifted generation\, their finely-crafted arrangements wield a rare potency. Now\, having toured with with some of the biggest and brightest acts in the British folk scene\, they reconvene to perform as a duo. \nWhilst intrinsically borrowing from English and other European Traditional Dance music\, sonically Moore and Moss have their heads firmly in the present\, understanding the values of contemporary music and art making. The distinct pulse\, energy and group-intuition of trad-music haunts their playing as they continue to push the creative boundaries for English instrumental music\, listening and responding to the world around them as much as their musical ancestors. \nDoors: 6pm; Performance start: 6:30pm
