SUMMARY:Deaf Education & Audiology: A Journey through Artefacts\, Archives and Creativity
DESCRIPTION:The histories and lived experiences of deafness are rich and complex. Extraordinary technological advances have been made in the exploration of hearing\, alongside a better appreciation of the social and psychological impact of sensory perception on learning. The materials displayed offer an insight into the varied historical and contemporary approaches in deaf education and audiology\, from a range of perspectives. The exhibition also provokes questions around how we understand\, collect and communicate D/deafness in a dominant hearing world. The exhibition is part of the 100 year anniversary celebrations of Deaf Education and Audiology at The University of Manchester. \nCurated by Dr Jenna C. Ashton \nLecture and Programme Director of Heritage Studies\, The University of Manchester \nFree – please drop in \n  \n[image – Complexities of Lived Experience (2019)\, by Lawiza Tahir]

SUMMARY:Black Then\, Black Now: Black History Month 2019
DESCRIPTION:The Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Education Trust and Big People Music present 3 days of history\, 3 days of futurity on the 1st\, 28th and 30th October. \nCome and experience black culture\, what it means\, and why unifying a social movement forward is crucial to how we define a legacy. \nWe encourage you to be open about the experiences that shape your concept of blackness\, as the movement continues to expose narratives that reshape the social stereotype of what black history was\, to what it is. \nOver the three days\, events will include a series of art performances and workshops curated from real life stories of the diaspora surrounding food\,  creativity\, art\, health and wellbeing. Keep an eye on the Eventbrite\, website calendar and social media platforms (@aiucentre) for individual events. \nAll BHM events are FREE\, but please head over to the Eventbrite page as some events have limited places and require booking
