Tapestry of Black Britons – Exhibition Launch

Join us to celebrate the arrival of Tapestry of Black Britons at Manchester Central Library

Tapestry of Black Britons elevates overlooked inclusive histories through embroidered woven tapestries and schools’ resources. Inspired by the Bayeux tapestry and African Caribbean woven traditions, this evolving artwork emphasises that the richness of British history is incomplete without acknowledging the profound contributions by people of African descent.

On display will be the “World War II commemoration” tapestry designed by founder Paula Ogun Hector; alongside a specially commissioned Manchester photo banner. Join us to celebrate the arrival of this tapestry that features Manchester WW2 serviceman Euton Christian. Exhibition on from 11 November 2026 – 31 January 2027. Thanks to support from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and National Project Lottery Grant from Arts Council England.
