Join us for this live performance by an experienced folk musician who draws inspiration from local and family history. Michael Burns’ repertoire incorporates music from a wide timespan and he is interested in music pertaining to social commentary and how it relates to the present day.

‘Tameside Lads’ tells of a sea rescue back in the 1800s.
‘James Keogh’ is about the role of people from Manchester in the Spanish Civil War.
‘Oh Marie’ is an impressionistic account of an Irish Traveller funeral in Gorton.
‘The Little Count’ is a waltz celebrating the music of a diminutive Polish musician who toured Europe in Georgian times before settling in Durham.
