LIVE: Rhythms of the Diaspora: A DJ & Drum Performance

Rhythms of the Diaspora: A DJ & Drum Performance

Join us at Manchester Central Library this Black History Month, from 2–4pm, for a live performance bringing together DJing and traditional drumming from across the African and Caribbean diasporas.

DJ Atiké and percussionist, dancer and multidisciplinary artist Djè ẞỳngï Xh’ūlu will connect the sounds of traditional Caribbean drumming with Afrobeat, Latin rhythms and electronic music, creating a fresh and exciting musical experience. Celebrating the musical traditions that continue to shape the sounds we hear today, this performance explores how rhythm connects people, cultures and generations.

Meet the artists

Atiké is a DJ and co-founder of Me Gusta Collective and Green Island Festival. Born in Vienna and raised in Ireland, with roots in Ecuador and Togo, his sound brings together influences from Afrobeat, Latin music, jazz and underground electronic music.

Djè ẞỳngï Xh’ūlu is a Carriacou diasporan percussionist, dancer and multidisciplinary artist with roots in the Grenadian Islands. His work draws on Gwa Tambu (Big Drum), traditional African-Caribbean rhythms, singing and dance, celebrating the connections between music, cultural heritage and ancestral traditions.

Together, they create a powerful meeting point between past and present, bringing traditional rhythms into conversation with contemporary sounds in a celebration of Black musical heritage and community.

Part live show, part day-rave, join us in the Performance Space on Friday 30 October for what promises to be a showstopping finale to Black History Month.

Free Entry. Suitable for all ages.
